About the New Venture Creation Course
The New Venture Creation programme develops the practical business skills needed to start, manage and grow a small business. Learners work through the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, market opportunities, customer service, pricing, cash flow, bookkeeping, marketing, goal-setting and business planning.
The emphasis is on turning a business idea into something that can be planned, costed, marketed and operated in practice, rather than learning entrepreneurship only in theory.
Who is this programme for?
The programme is suited to aspiring entrepreneurs, people preparing to start a small business and existing small-business owners who want stronger foundations for running or growing their venture.
It is particularly useful for learners who need practical introductory business capability rather than advanced management or academic business theory. Current programme material also positions it strongly around entrepreneurship and self-employment.
What will you be able to do?
On completion of the programme, learners develop the ability to:
- Understand their entrepreneurial strengths: consider their own capabilities, goals and readiness to operate a business.
- Understand the industry and market: research the environment in which the business will operate and identify viable market opportunities.
- Develop a business offering: consider innovation and how products or services can meet customer needs.
- Price products and services: use basic calculations to establish appropriate pricing.
- Manage business finances: work with cash flow, basic bookkeeping and simple financial information.
- Market the business: understand customers, develop marketing activities and promote the business more effectively.
- Deliver customer service: build stronger customer relationships and understand why service matters to business sustainability.
- Set goals and plan the venture: use SMART goals and business planning to turn an idea into a structured course of action.
